Last month I noticed 2 mourning doves building a nest in my lilac bush right outside my window. I was pretty excited and had to get a pic, staying a respectful distance and being careful not to move branches and risk exposure of the nest. Then they went away. :( Then they came back. :)
I never got close enough to bother them and never saw the eggs. I witnessed the "changing of the guard"- the nest is always occupied- the parents take turns.
Did some research and found that crows are a predator, so we hung CDs nearby. If I hear other birds out there, I step outside. Our cats stay indoors and not too many stay into our fenced yard with 3 dogs going in and out.
Yet one evening, Cinnamon was jumping up in the bush. I ran outside and called her in. Parent dove stayed right there with the babies the whole time. Both babies are ok. Now I'm careful about keeping the dogs away, too!
